The Recharge | She’s Shattering Stereotypes & Transforming the Toy Industry!

Our guest shares her journey to transform toys for girls – the false peaks, naysayers, the moments, and how one call from NBC Today! changed everything.

While shopping with her nine-year-old daughter in 2007,  a line of dolls wearing short skirts, high heels, belly button rings, and lots of makeup stopped her in her tracks. On the day she saw “Lovely Lola,” she knew. There wasn’t one parent out there that wanted their daughter to look like that. And the idea for Go! Go! Sports Girls – dolls encouraging healthy and active play over fashion and body image – was born.

At first, her product was dismissed – Industry leaders told her it was mainstream enough. Today, our guest is a leader in the toy industry breaking gender stereotypes since 2009. Our Guest is Jodi Bondi Norgaard, founder of Dream Big Toy Company and the creator of the award-winning Go! Go! Sports Girls line of dolls, books, and apps for girls.

Jodi is an entrepreneur, a diversity and inclusion consultant, a feminist advocate, and an expert in creating change and breaking gender stereotypes. She has been featured on a number of national media outlets, invited to the White House to partake on advisory committees, and has graced the Ted stage as a public speaker.

“It’s our culture that needs to be fixed, not us. We’re not broken. We’re fine.”  – Jodi Bondi Norgaard
